What is the Role of Production Agriculture in Your Local Community?
Production Agriculture has a big impact on our local community. If we didn't have production agriculture I don't think Hampton would be the community we are. Living in a small community in Nebraska we rely on our farmers for many different things. The money generated from production agriculture is put back into the community, we don't always realize how much agriculture helps the community. Farmers have helped the school with fiances, having a school helps our community if you loose your school you kind of loose your name. We are a little school but it helps our community with all the different kids that come here. It also helps keep the Coop now Central Valley Ag open and happy and keeps them willing to help us out, they help with some of our fundraisers and help provide things for our barbeque. The coop helps the community out because they help the farmers and they keep the farmers happy. Depending on the time of year also affect the community because depending on what the farmers are doing affects how much affect they can have. When the farmers our done with harvest you will see more activity in town. Without production agriculture we wouldn't be who we are, and we wouldn't be where we are. Farmers deserve more of a thank you than what they get most of the time. A lot of people look at farmers as bad because they are affecting the land, and farmers are constantly tearing out trees and changing the way the land lays. With all of the alterations that farmers make to the land it affects our hunting because it focused animals to move and change where they live.
The role production agriculture has in our community is very crucial. A lot of jobs around our community have something to do with agriculture. Whether that is apart of the production process itself or having to do with merchandising or marketing maybe. In a small town like Hampton there is not a lot of job opportunities with a lot of other things, with agriculture that spectrum opens up a lot of jobs for people. A small town/farm community like Hampton relies on agriculture to stay alive in today’s economy. Most of its business and people come from farmers and their wants and needs. Farmers work to make money for themselves and generate products for the market, but they also take some of the money that is made and put it back into their community. Especially in a small community like Hampton where not a lot of state money comes in and where a lot of citizens have pride in their community. That money that is donated by citizens and farmers is greatly looked upon by the town and its residents, it helps the community shine and stand out. The Co-op in Hampton, now known as Central Valley Ag, helps generate a lot of business and attention towards Hampton, with people hauling in their crops and going to the elevator. With that elevator being located in Hampton more and more farmers can haul here if they need to or want to. Also, some semis haul sugar from Hampton to the ethanol plant in Aurora, those truck drivers generate more business for Hampton and make the community more known.
We are on the brink of global economic disaster. Population boom will dwarf agronomic production unless we come up with new ideas to the production of food. We need new ideas, young people, and the FFA organization is the spearhead to that revolution. A strong majority of citizens in our community are farmers. It is literally 98 percent of our villages economy. The other 2 percent are strongly dependent on the income of farmers. Hampton is a sapling. We are just coming out of the ground and we are growing. With an established agriculture in our community new things like small business and entrepreneurs are jetting from our stem. Eventually our community will blossom into the strong oak it is destined to be.
The role of agriculture has a big impact in our community of hampton there are many things around here that are supported by a farmer wether it has all to do with a farmer or not like the c-store many farmers come to the store every morning and sometimes in the evenings to get there coffee another place is the elevator across the hwy that takes all the grain from the farmer and sells it around the world with out farmers this place would have no use same with the chemical division it sells chemicals and fertilizer to the farmer to help the farmers crops grow to full potential but without the farmer this place to would be worthless. Another key store is the welding store where many farmers go everyday to have something fixed or get something that they need to fix something back at the farm like hydraulic hoses or just the many things that they need to be fixed and if they cant bring it to the shop they will come out and work on it on the farm.
